PCCs as Charities > Registration

Registration of PCCs with the Charity Commission -
What you need to do

PCCs with gross income in 2007 over £100,000 will be required to register with the Charity Commission.  However,  the Office of the Third Sector have not yet made the Commencement Order which triggers the process. We anticipate that PCCs will be able to start registering later in 2008.  For the moment, you should do nothing!

The Archbishops' Council have worked with the Charity Commission to make the process as simple as possible.  We have agreed Approved Governing Documents, and have developed specific guidance notes for Church of England parishes to use when registering. Please do not try and register before this form is available - for example, the charitable objects of PCCs are laid down by statute, and it is important that these are kept as standard.

Two dioceses are piloting the guidance we have provided, and if you are a parish in Sheffield or Coventry dioceses with income over £100,000 you can find some resources relevant to you by clicking here.

Trusteeship
The Church of England, working jointly with the Charity Commission has produced an 8 page booklet for PCC members as an introduction to their role as Trustees. You can access a pdf by clicking here.

Hallmarks of an Effective Charity
The Commission have also published a summary of the Hallmarks of an Effective Charity. Why not review your governance against this. Click here for a pdf.
